Big Vista Surprise
by Stewart February 8th, 2007The Wall Street Journal reports that PC sales got a big boost from Vista. “[A research] firm said that unit sales of PCs at U.S. retailers for the week ending Feb. 3 jumped 67% versus a year ago and 173% from the prior week, when Vista was not available.”
Does that surprise you? One week there are no computers available because Microsoft made the OEMs and retailers stop selling them. The next week, sales jump 173%. Seems little early to be celebrating.

Not only do I agree with your statement, but this version of Microsoft’s OS is a nightmare. Anyone who upgrades to it today is crazy in my opinion. The hype on security is unknown to the consumer as they will not get the functions with home versions.

I have Vista Ultimate installed on my Thinkpad, and actually I have to say it is by far the most painless OS installed from Microsoft EVER… yes, easier than win2k, easier than 98… easier than XP!
From a usability perspective, I think the resistence to adoption for Vista will be relatively low. The big challange will be getting people to adopt Office 2007…
So far I’m pretty happy with it, there are a few quirks and issues, but most of it is related to 3rd party software. I’m sure once the partner eco-system catches up it’ll be very good.
As for the security end… here is an article that just came out today!
